Comproggggg!

Tue Nov 10, 2009, 6:46 AM
I'm in Computer Programming right now, drawing that spiffy new wolf I made. Except, I used the wrong colors, so it's more like a red-and-blue version of it. Anyway, I'm waiting for my teacher to stop helping other struggling students and start teaching our class... doubt it'll happen today. It didn't yesterday. We had many issues with this program, lol. The only way I managed to get it right was by paying veeeeery close attention, and even then, it didn't work til I got him to help me. God knows why, I made some error that was hidden and to fix it I just did it over. Oh, looks like he's almost ready to start talking to us as a whole. *puts colored pencils I borrowed from the art class away* ...or not. Damn, I need a black colored pencil. and yellow. Ugh, this wolf looks so stupid, I think I'm gonna mix up its markings and make it a whole new wolf. I'm gonna draw Amatirasu from Okami later while I'm in art class, because I've finished the project we're working on - making a playing card based on you. Okami is my new favorite video game. I haven't had so much fun playing a game in a LONG time, and honestly, when it's just me in my living room at 10 PM with nothing else around but the couch, the Wii, and my iPod playing Blue Dressed In Black by Eric Stuart... I think it's the most fun I've had in a long time doing anything.

God, that came out wrong.

But anyway, yeah. Class is over in 15 minutes, so I've been sitting here drawing/typing/doing nothing for over 30. Yeesh. Oh, time to go it seems. TTYL!

Cow Peter.

Fri Oct 23, 2009, 6:27 PM
Okay, my friends and I can't be the only ones that hear Nick Jonas say "my neighbor, Cow Peter" when we listen to Year 3000 by the Jonas Brothers, right? Not that I listen to that song often. I really don't.

I'm so exhausted right now -.- Random story time! About 6 months ago, I accidentally subscribed to 17 Magazine on a trial version. I used up my trial, then a few months after it was up, I subscribed because I got a really good deal (thanks, Twitter!). So I got my 2nd issue of my subscription and they were giving away free lip gloss/perfume sets online. I go on the website, sign in with my account, and enter...being very careful to not start another trial subscription. I swear the box had "no" highlighted and "I am already I'm a subscriber" was already determined and everything! However, soon as I click "enter contest"... I go to a page saying something along the lines of "Thank you for your entry! And, also, thank you for your subscription! Your first issue should arrive in 4-6 weeks. The bill of $10 will come shortly after that." I was like "wut....? Crap." and now I'm starting to freak out but I'm okay as of yet... Seriously, they must know I already HAVE a subscription, with the same name and information and even email address and everything!!!! *sigh*

As far as art is concerned, I'm working on it. I'm so busy lately - school has given me WAY more extra work than anticipated, not to mention I'm going to the school on Sundays now to help make the set for our plays. This gives me Saturday to be alive - and I need it to sleep. Argh. I've got 2 prizes to draw and upload, still, and thankfully I'm halfway finished one and it should be up in the next week (I'm knocking on wood as I type - whenever I give a time estimate for when my art should be done, I always miss the deadline.) It's coming, guys! It's coming!

Aside from that, all I really have to say is.... I wish my computer wouldn't slow down when I make extremely high res and therefore large pictures. Bleh, who am I kidding, I wish I drew like so many other people in the world. I hate my "style", if you could call it that.

EDIT: Random Quiz that's going around I wanted to add in!

1. Why did you join this site?
I was at OMU and noticed a lot of people had one. I thought I'd give it a try.

2. What does your username have to do with you?
Dark is a sexy prefix. Not to mention, I've always wanted a black Rapidash.... Rapidash being my all-time favorite Pokemon.

3. What is your current icon of?
A sprite of my OC, Dark Rapidash (whom came after the name).

4. How many watchers do you have and how many people are you currently watching?
I have 56 and I watch 57.

5. Do you have more than one account?
Yes - I have a photography and literature account, :iconrialitpho:

6. Name 3 of your favorite artists on DA.
:iconkankakanka: :iconminibaah: :iconyutakayumi:
They all have absolutely amazing work.

7. What deviant do you admire because of their personality?
Well, here's the thing: I don't actually talk to many people on here. I use deviantART mostly to show off (well, really, to get feedback, though my pictures don't get many comments). So, to be honest, I can't answer this question =/

8. How many people on here do you actually know in reality? Post their avatars.
:iconxxmaydayparadexx: :iconmini-gojii: :iconpikachugirl152: :iconshaolinfon:
4 people. Most of which I don't even see/talk to very often :\

9. Do you comment, fave, or both?
I try to do both. A comment here, a fave there, and both when I really feel like I can talk about something I like (which is rare, sorry.)

10. What do you typically post on deviantart?
Pretty much any art that looks slightly decent that I can have on the computer and not look like total crap.

11. Do you participate in clubs or contests here on DA?
I'm the admin of the :iconTMA-cub: but I'm not in any other clubs. I've entered 3 contests, and I've held one of my own recently. Unfortunately, during the school year, I barely have time for any more =(

12. What is your most popular deviation?

This one has the most comments. My uploads with the most favorites and views are both reference pictures.

13. What's your favorite submission in your gallery?

14. What are the things you wish you could draw better?
Pretty much everything.

15. Are you a subscriber?
Yes I am! =D

16. How many hours a day do you spend on DA?
Usually I just sign on when I start the internet, then do whatever I've gotta do in other windows and check messages now and then or look at popular art during breaks in work or whatever.

17. Are you a fast, slow, or medium typer?
Medium. I would say fast, but I know people who type way faster than me - but I'm definitely not slow.

18. What is the most annoying thing people ask you?
"Can I copy your homework?" The answer is always no. Unless, of course, the asker is in a situation where they really couldn't do their homework the night before and needs it in 5 minutes or they fail the class. Having a headache/being too lazy to look up answers/not reading directions/going to the movies because you were bored is NOT a valid excuse. ((I know, it's not a dA thing - but it annoys me to death none the less!))

19. What is the most annoying comment you get?
"Nice!" Yeah, okay, thanks. Not to be conceited, but I know it's nice. Wanna help me make it great...?

20. What inspires you?
Life. All different aspects of it.

21. Do you use any traditional media?
Yes I do. I have many sketchbooks, a really nice set of Prismacolor colored pencils, a nice set of graphite pencils, acrylics at school, watercolors at home, and professional cartoonist markers.

22. Do you associate people online with their icons?
Usually. Icon or name.

23. Have you ever suggested a Daily Deviation?
Nope. I don't consider myself a good enough critic to be able to accurately choose one.

24. Everyone has considered leaving DA once or twice. Have you? Why?
I've never considered it. I tend to go inactive for like a month now and then, but I've never even thought about actually leaving!

Winners of the Child In You Contest!

Sat Oct 3, 2009, 3:40 PM
This contest has been going on for a month and a half, and finally, here are the final results!

All entries:

I judged these each based on Originality, Use of Medium, and Interpretation of Theme. Each attribute was ranked on a scale of one to five, and, of course, the entries with the highest scores won. If you'd like to learn your score, please send me a note. However, I will NOT change your score/give you a prize/whatever. Now, without further ado, here are the winners!

In third place:
by :iconsolemnlyswear22:

This is probably the most original entry I got. The main thing I like about this entry is the way that it wasn't simply sent in as a piece of literature, nor was it in anyway corrected - it's just the original letter in the original form, kind of like opening an old box and finding things from your childhood =)

The third place prizes are...
...a feature on my journal and my profile page for a month
...and poetry courtesy of :iconlorain617:
Congratulations!

In second place:
by :icondresdenbell:

This is an absolutely adorable piece of photography. Also, the originality in the was the photographer interpreted the theme was right on. While many people sent me memoirs and representations of time passing, this is one of the only entries that actually references someone in present-day.

The second place prizes are...
...and art piece by me, totally by winner's choice
...a feature in my journal and on my profile page for a month
...and winner's choice of poetry or prose courtousy of :iconlorain617:
Congratulations!

Finally, the moment you've been waiting for...! The first place winner is...
by :iconpinky500280:

To be perfectly honest, I fell in love with this piece the moment I read it. The concept of this poem is not the most original, yet the poet makes it sound like they own it. This is one of those pieces that just make you think...

The first place prizes are...
...a one-month subscription to deviantART!
...an art piece by me, totally winner's choice
...a feature in my journal and on my profile page for a month
...and prose and poetry courtesy of :iconlorain617:
Congratulations!

I'd like to give an honorable mention to this entry:
by :iconmindlessmaze:
This was the most relate-able poem for me. So much, that it's really strange! This is one of my personal favorites, lol!

To all winners: please send a note to :iconlorain617: to discuss your literature prize! To those who won an art piece: please send me a note so we can talk about what you'd like =) Thank you to all who entered! I hope to see you in my next contest! =D

Contest extension and other things

Thu Sep 17, 2009, 2:25 PM
Because I felt that there weren't enough entries compared to the amount of people who told me they were GOING to enter. [link]

Enter if you like, it's a good way to get a one-month premium sub to dA =D

Right now I have horrible horrible allergies... ughhhhh my eyes are in pain! and so is my nose ;-;

I made a new account for photography and literature, so that I don't flood this account. Of course, I won't be having too many updates on either for a while because of school (and tons of homework every day + art club and stage crew) but here it is :iconrialitpho:

I won't have too many deviations for a while, sad to say. I did just get my final exam self-portrait back from my teacher last year, though. It sucks. I have learned to never used colored pencils on a timed test again (not that we had a choice lol)

Peace, wine, and cheese, Ria = )

PS, can't believe kanye at the vmas. shuuuuunnnnnnnn the demon. shuuuuunnnnnn!

Contest Reminder

Wed Sep 2, 2009, 7:19 AM
It ends in 2 weeks, and so far I haven't gotten any entries. I need there to be at least 3 entries in order for me to give away the grand prize, a one months subscription to deviantART! See the contest here - [link]

What is the contest about? Well, we were all "crazy kids." All of us. The object of this contest is simple - reach as deep as you can into your earliest memories and remember what you were like when you were a small child. What was popular? What did you want to be when you grew up? Who was your best friend? What happened in that glorious time before you even had to go to school, where the hardest thing you'd have to do all day is find something to do? Represent yourself as you were back then in some form of art. It could be a photograph from way back when, a sculpture of your favorite toy, a drawing of how you saw the world, a poem about your buddies, or a short story about the time you flushed your cat down the toilet. Anything at all.

Deadline is September 15th. EST.

A sample of a poem can be found here - on my second account, made for photography and literature.
